I Help out with the BT Christian Network, and thought you might be interested in a new programme we have been running. We have recently been testing an idea for giving away free bibles to employees within BT, and I think this is a model which could easily be rolled out within other organisations. The reason behind this is to allow anyone within the business easy and cost free access to what Christians believe is a book inspired by God.
After getting approval from HR, advertising of the service was done through a BT offers website page which linked to the BTCN website where people were able to request a bible on line. Once a request has been received the free bible administrator contacts the next person on a list of volunteers (all volunteers have signed up to donate bibles ) . The volunteer then prints off a pre-designed covering letter, buys a specific bible, then combines the two and posts it out to the recipient.
This method allows easy scaling up to cope with peaks and troughs in activity, and ensures no one person is overloaded with requests. Volunteers are encouraged to turn down requests if they cannot afford to donate at the time. If this occurs, the next volunteer on the list is then contacted.
Since launching around a month ago, we have given out over 190 bibles, which is very much higher than our initial estimates, and we hope to give out many more in the future!
