Thought
Christians in Government UK (CiGUK) is a national Government staff network which aims to not only bring Christians together but also to see Christians in Government becoming the best that we can be, realise and connect our faith not just at Church or Ministry outside of work but also in our everyday working lives. Some say that Government is the heart of our nation and we believe that we can make a difference and effect change not just in Government and in our workplaces but more so in this nation too.
There are now nearly 40 networks across Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland: we believe that Christianity has been and is relevant today in the workplace. We commit to pray regularly for our Prime Minister, MPs, Peers and other Government members and officials, policy, social and economic issues as well as supporting Christians and non believers in the workplace.
We also run Alpha and other courses for people of all walks of life and put on social events too. We recently had our national conference which focused on how we can we can make a difference in our everyday working lives by living and walking in our faith. We also have a newly formed Worship group which meet bi monthly to worship God through singing, praise and the word. We believe that God is going to sing over this nation and bring restoration as only God can.
Our focus for December’s prayer is detailed below and we meet every first Friday of the month at 12.45 at Westminster Central Hall chapel to pray and we also run a 24 hour prayer vigil on the same day too across the nation. We know that greater things are yet to come in this land.

Prayer Pointers
- Pray for our Prime Minister, Ministers, MPs of all parties, Permanent Secretaries, civil servants and all those who work in national and local government including the police – that they have wisdom and discernment and govern wisely and justly in the interests of all.
- CIGUK Leaders Please pray for the leadership team and core/ departmental leaders – for a covering of prayer for wisdom, protection, strength, courage, integrity and guidance in all things. Please also pray that God bless them in their professional work, finances, families and health too.
- Monthly Prayer meetings Please pray for God’s presence to be at these meetings in a more profound way and for an even greater attendance, commitment to pray, praise and worship as well as for the enlargement of faith, passion and vision for Christians in CIGUK.
- Carol Service Please pray for our proclamation of the gospel over Christmas – for impact from the CIG UK Christmas Carol Service on 18 December and the funding. Please also pray for other events taking place in departments over the Christmas season.
- Finance for CiGUK Please pray for provision, favour and financial blessing as well as for wisdom for our leaders to know how best to utilise these finances throughout the year.
- The Departments, groups and networks CIGUK is as strong as the networks and the witness of Christians in the government departments and organisations we represent. Please pray for all the networks, groups and isolated Christians in Gov’t across England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland that they are strengthened, blessed and prospered: for greater unity and coordination across CIGUK nationally.
- Social and economic issues Our nation needs to see and experience a change in our society to bring it back to God’s plan and pattern. We also need to pray that God will bless and heal our land socially and economically. Pray that God protect our children and give wisdom dedicated to their care and protection. Please also pray for those who are facing difficulties specifically because of unemployment and the decline in business activity both in our nation and internationally.
