Inspiring Christians to Transform
the Workplace and the Nation...

21 June 2010

Dear {recipient.first_name},
Contentment and Budgets

David Cameron and Nick Clegg have made no secret of the need for national austerity as a Governmental solution to the nation's financial ills.  There is nothing ungodly about thrift per se.  The impact of these measures will be felt in the workplace; for some the anxiety and stress of their situation will weigh heavily.
Many of us will have read the Apostle Paul's writings in Philippians (see Quote - Unquote") and pray for the truth of that scripture in our lives.  C S Lewis also addresses 'contentment' and likewise, helps us gain perspective, which is at risk of being overshadowed by the budget.  He says "If you think of this world as a place intended simply for your happiness, you find it quite intolerable. Think of it as a place of training and correction and it's not so bad."

Prayers before workplace meetings
boris johnsonThe Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has slammed a secular campaign to stop a local council praying before its meetings.  The National Secular Society (NSS) is attempting to use the courts to stop Bideford Town Council in Devon from holding prayers before its meetings.  But Boris Johnson pointed out that Parliament has the same tradition, and that it is helpful for both believers and non-believers.  It's not just local government but many non-profit organisations, especially those with Christian foundations, may commence board and trustee meetings with prayer.

Jobs and the public sector

budget cutsThe budget has followed the Government's Coalition document. According to that document they will abolish: Regional Spatial Strategies; The Infrastructure Planning Commission; The Government Office for London and consider the case for abolishing the remaining Government Offices; The Standards Board regime; The Comprehensive Area Assessment; and many of the further education quangos.

The loss of jobs can be very worrying and in response to the needs of Christians who may be 'at risk' or wanting to support an 'at risk' colleague, we are launching a new web page with access to practical tips when losing your job, testimony on redundancy, managing your finance, work/life balance, prayer and links to other sources of important information.

Are you involved in local Church leadership?
leadershipClearly local churches will experience directly the effects of job losses and the austerity measures announced in the budget.  As a response to this and our ministry to support local church leaders in their engagement with the workplaces represented by their congregation, we are launching a range of new resources.  Click here to visit the new Church leaders' page and click here to subscribe to the new 'Church Leaders' list.

God's Provisions

“But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at last you have revived your concern for me; indeed, you were concerned before, but you lacked opportunity. Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need.”
