Supporting Church Leaders

leadershipf

Church leaders have a vital role to play in "preparing God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up" (Eph 4:12).

MindtheGap

But sometimes there can be a very large gap between what happens on Sundays and the working life for the rest of the week.

This section is aimed at helping Church Leaders envision and equip members of their congregations to be effective at living out their faith and sharing Jesus wherever He has placed them.

Making a Difference in the Workplace

Dave used to work for the Met Office and was very much part of the Christian group there. Now as a Church leader, Dave is keen to support and encourage his congregation to make a different or the Kingdom of God in their workplaces. There are some good ideas for church leaders in this v-blog.

Top Ten Suggestions for Church Leaders:

1. Include prayers for different workplaces during your services, including short interviews with workers (and not only Christians in the teaching or medical professions).

2. Try and use illustrations from work situations in your sermons

3. Encourage people to share their work frustrations and struggles in small groups or with the pastoral care team, or set-up a prayer network specifically for those at work.

4. Occasionally visit church members at their places of work

5. Encourage people to think about how they can use their spiritual gifts in a work context

6. Consider envisioning and supporting an outreach initiative in a local workplace (e.g. Alpha in the workplace, Christianity Explored, Carol Service, Easter Events)

7. Run a course that can help Christians live out their faith in the workplace (e.g. God At Work, WorkTalk, etc...), or encourage work-related bible studies (the book of Daniel is a great place to start!).

8. Start-up a lunchtime prayer meeting or short service for workers to come and be refreshed during the week.

9. Become a chaplain for your local town centre, supermarket, shopping centre, etc...

10. Buy (and read!) a copy of Mark Greene's "Supporting Christians At Work"
